I thought I would write to you to express my sympathy for the death of John. I was so sorry to hear about your loss.

or

It was with great sadness that I learned about the death of John.

Everyone in the family joins me in sending our deepest sympathy.

John was a great friend and colleague. We worked together for many years at D.S Smith & Son and I shall treasure the memories I have of him. My most poignant memory being when we celebrated our 25 year anniversary with the Company.

John will be sadly missed by us all, he was liked by everyone and was an asset to the team.

Please let me know if you need anything or if I can drop by with anything you need in the next weeks.

We all send you our deepest condolences and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Love/Sincerely/With Deepest Sympathy,

Another Sample Condolence Letter - Death Of Mother

Dear,

It was with enormous sadness that we heard that your dear Mother, and our wonderful friend had died.

We cannot imagine how you must be feeling right now but you are in our thoughts and prayers.

We have many wonderful memories of her and treasure the times we all spent together. Our last being our trip to Austria in the mountains where we spent two glorious weeks.

You can be extremely proud of having had such a Mother. She was an amazing lady, of great character and humour and we shall miss her infectious laugh and kindness.

We all send our deepest condolences.

Sincerely yours,

Sample Condolence Letter - Death Of Sister

Dear Tina,

John and I were very saddened when we read your letter today. Your sister's death comes as a great shock to us both. Julia was a great friend and we have many wonderful memories of her. Her passing will leave an empty space in our lives as it will in yours.

I can remember the last time she came to visit us here in France. We spent many jolly days together basking in the sunshine and exchanging gossip over a glass of wine. We could always rely on Julia to tell us the latest about all the goings on in the village, who had got married, had a baby etc. It certainly helped us when we first moved here and were so homesick.

I am sorry that John and I could not attend the funeral. But our thoughts will be with you and Tony today, being the day of the funeral, as you say goodbye to your beloved sister and our wonderful friend.

Much love from Francine and John Stapleton
